| MAJOR UK COMPANIES IN MIDLANDS BACK IMAGINEERING
|
| |
| Major UK and international companies are lending their support to IMAGINEERING, a major initiative designed to encourage youngsters to consider a career in engineering and technology. These blue chip organisations are all taking part in the IMAGINEERING FAIR, at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry on 24-25 November 2007 and include high profile names such as Jaguar Land Rover, National Grid, Goodrich, Delcam, Meggitt, Perkins, Fanuc and Cummins, to name a few. This exciting show for all the family is packed with scores of fun hands-on activities for youngsters from 8 – 16 years, laid on by these companies to introduce them to the exciting world of engineering and modern technology through personal involvement.
|
| |
| Youngsters will be able to explore the mind-blowing technology of the modern world with stimulating activities covering themes from submarines to aerospace; manufacturing and CADCAM to motorsport and remarkable robotics – and everything in between. There will also be plenty of opportunities to find out about apprenticeships and careers in engineering and technology. |

| David Archer, Learning Manager for Perkins Engines Ltd, Peterborough, commented: “We have become involved in this event as we believe the Imagineering Fair and Clubs is a great way for young people to ‘experience’ the challenging and rewarding world of engineering and manufacturing. Giving young people the chance to see how things work and are made, demonstrating the positive impact we are making to the environment and allowing them to experience problem solving, using their own creative skills, hands-on in a safe and fun environment is a great opportunity too good to miss.” |
| |
| Bob Shanks, Chairman of Imagineering, said: "We are delighted that so many high profile organisations, like Perkins, have backed our special event in November. Behind this festival of fun is a serious aim to introduce young people to the exciting possibilities of engineering, at an early age and through personal experience. Imagineering was set up specifically to inspire and capture the imagination of children at a young age so they can explore their career options later well-informed about the exciting opportunities available to youngsters of all capabilities. There is a very real need for engineers and technicians across the whole of UK engineering and manufacturing in spite of the occasional bad news we receive about closures.” |
| |
| Additional attractions at the Fair include Trevor Baylis, the famous inventor and Oscar the Talking Robot. An Energy and the Environment Zone will highlights the problems of climate change and outline some of the solutions including renewable energy and how to use less energy. |
| |
| Extra support has also come from National Grid Construction Alliances who are sponsoring free coach transport to the Fair for group bookings through schools. |
