Imagineering has another Major Success in the Southwest
The Imagineering Fair once again proved a major attraction at the Royal Bath and West Show 2006, Shepton Mallet, Somerset with loads of fun activities for all ages and an estimated 25,000 visitors over the whole event. This year also saw Royal Bath & West Show visitor figures breaking a 30-year record at over 163,000.

At Imagineering, from submarines to aerospace – and everything in between – there were opportunities to learn about cutting edge technology in manufacturing and younger people had the opportunity to have a go at some new hands-on activities. There were also chances to experience at first hand some of the fascinating engineering and high-technology equipment used by the Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and the Army.

This year’s Imagineering Team Challenge, held daily in the Main Ring, was hotly contested between Airbus, Thales UK and Augusta Westland with Airbus taking home the Challenge Trophy this year – much to the chagrin of Augusta Westland, last year’s winners! This lively challenge involved teams of apprentices and young engineers from each company racing specially-designed trailers around a demanding obstacle course and against the clock, under the watchful eye of REME adjudicators, testing the teams’ ingenuity and strength.

Participants at this year’s Fair were: Airbus, BMT Defence Services, Brunel Training, City of Bristol College, Bournemouth University, Fleet Air Arm Museum, Gloucestershire Setpoint, Imagineering Clubs, 6 Bn REME (Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers), Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, SWMAS, Thales UK, University of West of England, University Centre Yeovil, West of England Aerospace Forum, Westland Helicopters, Yeovil College/Aim Higher.

The Imagienering Fair was supported by the West of England Aerospace Forum, Airbus, BMT Defence Services, Bournemouth University, City of Bristol College, EEF Western, Gloucestershire Setpoint, REME, SWMAS, Thales, UWE, Westland, Year in Industry and Yeovil College.
