Midland engineers concerned at the rapidly increasing skills shortage in engineering, develop the concept of Imagineering. The new initiative, designed to introduce 8-16 year olds to the fascinating world of engineering and manufacturing through fun, hands-on personal experience, targets the engineers of the future at a young age, develops and holds their interest and hopefully, encourages them to consider engineering as a future career. |

First Imagineering Fair held at Town and Country Festival, NAC, Stoneleigh, Warwicks. Around 20 manufacturers with hands-on activities and over 20,000 visitors attend. Trevor Baylis, famous inventor of the clockwork radio pays a visit to the Fair. |

Second Imagineering Fair held at Town and Country Festival, NAC, Stoneleigh, Warwicks. Over 40,000 visitors attended with nearly 40 exhibitors. Trevor Baylis lends his support to the Fair for the entire three-day show. New companies join the Fair - IMI, Purac, Caterpillar, Marconi, TRW Lucas Aerospace, Unipart, Bombardier. Talking robot, Oscar, proves major draw. |

Third Imagineering Fair - Town & Country Festival organisers very impressed with public response to earlier Fairs and allocate larger space for the Fair. 60,000 visitors attend. Live broadcast on Sky News and local radio from Fair. Trevor Baylis again joins in the fun of Imagineering. More organisations join in at the Fair - RAF, National Grid Transco, HME Technology, Cincinnati UK, Inst of Marine Engineering, CIBSE, Robot Wars - and Oscar returns. |

Imagineering Clubs concept developed, following format of Junior Engineering Clubs in Worcestershire. Support for launch comes from Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, Birmingham & Solihull Education & Business Consortium, Setpoint, Education Action Zone, amongst others. (Out-of-school Clubs for 9-11year olds who assemble a series of working devices from simple kits with help from a tutor engineer and school staff) |
