Activities

The main areas of activity currently are:

Imagineering Fairs
Annual public family events – so far one takes place in the Midlands and another one in the South West – attracting over 70,000 visitors per year – where leading manufacturers and organisations take stands and offer scores of specially-designed activities for young people, many of which relate to the particular engineering aspects of that company or to some aspect of people’s everyday lives.

Imagineering Clubs
After-school Clubs running for an hour every week during term time, each lead by an engineer tutor where 12 children (8–12 years old) are helped to make a series of working models that they can take home when completed. Since 2001 the number of Clubs has grown from 30 to over 80 involving about 1,000 children and 140 engineers giving their time. The hands-on activities include making simple devices such as a telescope, micrometer and Morse code buzzer.

Additional Activities
Some have been undertaken where Imagineering has worked in partnership with other organisations on one-day events (MTA Technology Day or individual Imagineering Days in schools).  Imagineering also supports special projects such as the Crossover Challenge where children from 14 schools designed and built, to scale, a bridge or a buggy to go over a bridge. Using broadband and the Internet, schools worked together in partnership to work on their projects.
